One of the main reasons David got into building these homes (apart from the love of older homes) is he has control of the quality and the time-frame to build the homes. David Wraight Cottages has a small but skilled group of sub-contractors. Its main contractors on site are the plumber, drainlayer, electrician and painter.

David Wraight Cottages homes keep it on the job the majority of the time, e.g. it roofs and clads its homes itself and fits its own interior linings, kitchens and bathrooms. David Wraight Cottages' builders enjoy all this work and it means it remains on the job to help and liaise with the sub-contractors.

Another main feature of David Wraight Cottages homes is it uses custom board panel ceilings and a mix of ply and custom board walls. It uses an arrangement of grooved plywood, plain ply or custom board with battens to form panelled walls. This means the house is far more durable and solid.

David Wraight Cottages believes this makes the home more energy efficient as these products are denser than gib board. By using these products it creates a different style and doesn't have the problems associated with gib board, i.e. joints peaking and hold-ups waiting for gib stoppers to arrive on the job.
